Job Summary

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Cost Accountant - Manufacturing to join our finance team. This role plays a critical role in tracking, analyzing, and reporting manufacturing costs, supporting accurate product costing, variance analysis, inventory valuation, and month-end close processes. The ideal candidate has strong cost accounting experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment and thrives in cross-functional collaboration with production, engineering, supply chain, and operations teams to drive cost efficiency and profitability.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Maintain and improve the standard cost system, including setting/updating standard costs for materials, labor, and overhead
• Perform monthly cost variance analysis (material, labor, overhead, purchase price, usage, efficiency, rate variances) and prepare clear explanations for management
• Calculate and report Cost of Goods Manufactured (COGM), Cost of Goods Sold (COGS), and gross margin by product line, customer, or plant
• Assist in month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, accruals, and inventory adjustments
• Monitor and reconcile inventory accounts (raw materials, WIP, finished goods); support cycle counting and annual physical inventory processes
• Analyze Bills of Materials (BOMs) and routing data in collaboration with engineering and production teams; recommend BOM/routing adjustments to improve costing accuracy
• Prepare weekly/monthly/quarterly cost reports, KPIs, and dashboards for operational and executive leadership
• Support annual budgeting and forecasting processes for manufacturing costs and overhead allocation
• Identify cost-saving opportunities, process inefficiencies, and areas for continuous improvement
• Ensure compliance with GAAP, internal controls, and company accounting policies
• Participate in ERP system enhancements/upgrades (especially cost accounting modules) and system testing
• Ad hoc financial analysis and special projects as required
• Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• Solid knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting principles
• 3–7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2–3 years in cost accounting within a manufacturing, industrial, or similar environment
• Strong understanding of standard costing, variance analysis, overhead allocation, and inventory valuation methods
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, data modeling)
• Experience working with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Infor, NetSuite, or similar) – especially manufacturing/cost modules
